The Background

Jurys Inn Dublin Custom House is next door to the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) in the heart of Dublin City and offers a perfect location for any business guest or city traveler. The hotel offers 239 spacious rooms, numerous meeting rooms, and a popular bar and restaurant. Running an extremely busy hotel can be challenging for maintenance managers to step away from their essential day-to-day duties, which keep everything running smoothly. The hotel was committed to reducing energy consumption levels and wanted to participate in the ‘Green Tourism Business Scheme’ but was concerned that energy management would require valuable time and resources.

The Answer

EnergyCAP SmartAnalytics™ installed an energy management solution to monitor the electricity consumption for hotel HVAC systems, including air handling units and extract fans. The solution was later expanded to monitor electricity consumption in other areas, such as the kitchen’s gas and water usage. The Local Area Network within the hotel was utilized to send monitored electricity data from the meters to the EnergyCAP SmartAnalytics Dashboard. A GPRS telemetry module was deployed to send the monitored gas and water data to the Dashboard. Using the Dashboard, the maintenance manager could quickly check the energy consumption for different hotel areas in real time. Significant energy consumers within the hotel are also identified rapidly by the solution. Automatic email or text alerts for different areas or appliances allowed the maintenance manager to effectively manage the time needed to monitor changes in energy consumption or costs. EnergyCAP SmartAnalytics also developed a custom Energy TV Display for the hotel lobby area, which displayed the hotel’s live electricity, gas, and water consumption.

The Results

The EnergyCAP SmartAnalytics Dashboard identified the total energy consumption and operational times for significant energy consumers within the hotel, such as the Bar & Restaurant Supply Fan, Kitchen Extract Fan, and Kitchen Extract Fan. The maintenance manager then targeted these appliances for energy conservation measures, including fine-tuning the timer settings to match hotel operation. The hotel successfully reduced the energy consumption for hotel air handling units by more than 25%. The custom Energy TV Display developed by EnergyCAP SmartAnalytics also helped the hotel achieve the Gold Standard Award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme, achieving the highest percentage level throughout Jurys Inn Hotel Group.
