Earlier this fall, EnergyCAP received some unexpected and welcome news:
Our company had received the 2013 Pennsylvania Excellence Award from the Small Business Institute for Excellence in Commerce (SBIEC).
We hadn’t applied for the recognition, but we were delighted and curious. What had we done to attract the praise of the SBIEC? The answer? “EnergyCAP has consistently demonstrated a high regard for upholding business ethics and company values, which is a trait seldom found in its industry.”
The SBIEC didn’t tell us precisely which business ethics and company values they had found to be significant enough to encourage others to emulate, but perhaps they were our ground rules for relating to each other and to our customers. The same company values printed on our front door:
These are the values that we emphasize in our staff planning meetings. They’re listed on our website careers page as reflective of our company culture. And to an extent, they’ve found their way into our minds and hearts. These help to define us. And in doing so, they change us. That’s one of the important things about values–they matter.
