Okay, that’s fake news. He didn’t say exactly that. But he did issue an Executive Order mandating deeper efforts to achieve energy cost and usage reductions, built on a foundation of energy tracking and reporting.
He signed Federal Executive Order 13834 on May 17, requiring all federal agencies to manage their operations in a manner “that increases efficiency, optimizes performance, eliminates unnecessary use of resources, and protects the environment.”

The Order establishes specific agency goals:
Steve Heinz, EnergyCAP, Inc.’s Founder & CEO, commented that “It’s significant that the federal government, which ‘manages more than 350,000 buildings and 600,000 vehicles, and is the largest consumer of energy in the country’[1] includes energy tracking and reporting as a major requirement for federal agencies. We have long recognized and communicated ‘Measure – Manage – Save’…energy tracking and reporting is the foundation upon which efficiency, conservation, renewables and ultimately savings, are all built. This Federal Executive Order validates that message.”
The Executive Order specifically encourages agencies to enter into performance-based contracts “to achieve energy, water, building modernization, and infrastructure goals.” That’s good news for long-term EnergyCAP partner, Cenergistic, whose consultative and hands-on energy efficiency expertise and resources have a 32-year track record of producing substantial energy and cost savings, with little or no up-front monetary investment from the customer. And EnergyCAP’s IPMVP-compliant Cost Avoidance functionality has been used for decades to objectively measure and verify the savings realized from performance-based and other energy conservation measures.
We applaud the Federal Government for taking this leadership role in energy conservation and encourage other organizations—public and private—to follow the Fed’s lead. You can take the first step by downloading our eBook, “An Introduction to Measurement & Verification.”
